Pastor's Corner
Weekly Column: "A New Week" This Week's Homily Homily Archive Dear Friends:
Welcome to the St. Pius V Parish Website! I am glad that you found our site on the web and I hope that you find the information you are looking for about our parish family in this website. As a Catholic Christian community of faith firmly rooted in Jesus Christ, these are our core values:
We value active participation in the Eucharist, prayer, and sacramental life. The Celebration of the Eucharist is the “source and summit” of our Christian life, and all are welcome to join us at 4:30pm on Saturday, and at 7:30am and 10:00am on Sundays. Masses are also celebrated Monday through Friday at 8:00am in the Rectory Chapel.
We value all life and have particular concern for the poor, vulnerable, and disenfranchised. Our parish offers and supports ministries and services to Refugees and Immigrants, to the Sick and grieving, to the Poor and those in need, and many others.
We value quality Catholic education for our children. We are proud supporters of St. Frances Cabrini Academy, our parish’s Catholic school, and the South City Regional Parish School of Religion.
We value good stewardship of our time, talent, and treasure. God has blessed our parish family, and our parishioners are encouraged to show their gratitude to God for his blessings by sharing part of what God has given them.
We value a worshipping community which is open and welcome to all. We are a vibrant, diverse, urban community of faith and we welcome all to worship with us and to journey in faith with us.
We value creating and caring for a sacred space that enhances our connection to God and to one another. Our parish is over 100 years old, and our Parish Church on Grand Avenue has stood for over 90 years. This sacred place has been hallowed ground for generations of Catholics. We respect our heritage and plan for a bright future.
We value our neighborhood and see ourselves as a prominent beacon of hope for a city in transition. Our parishioners are committed to the City of St. Louis, to our neighborhoods, and to making them hospitable, welcoming, and safe. St. Pius V is a proud member of Churches Committed to Community Concerns (C4) and works with many neighborhood organizations to insure the vitality of this area.
I hope that our core values strike a chord with many of you and that you join us as we journey in faith. Please know that you are always welcome at St. Pius V. May the Holy Spirit guide you on your way.
In Christ,
Rev. John Rogers Vien Pastor
